Personal accounts: a new way to save: Carers UK response to the White Paper
March 2007 (PDF document)

A 9 page report. Carers UK welcomes the proposed system for Personal Accounts which will help those on low and average incomes to save for their retirement. Automatic enrolment and compulsory employer contributions will incentivise saving, however the Government must ensure that it always pays to save, even for those with severely interrupted employment records.

Security in retirement: towards a new pensions system : Carers UK response to the White Paper

An 11 page report. Carers UK welcomes the Pensions White Paper, with its increased emphasis on the value of caring. Concerns were expressed that the proposed Carer's Credit should work effectively, and cover as many carers as possible.Carers UK tells Government that carers in retirement are angry that they are still doing the same work they did before retirement, and still making that contribution to society, with no recognition.

Pensions: Challenges and Choices: Carers UK's response to the first report of the Pensions Commission

This response highlights the demographic trends which mean that by 2037 there could be 3.4 million more carers. It argues that if carers are to avoid poverty in retirement, they must be supported to combine work and care. The system of supporting carers who are not in employment must also be reformed. The idea of weekly National Insurance credits for carers is welcomed.
