The Scottish Executive response to Care 21: the future of unpaid care in Scotland identified four initial priorities for action.  These are young carers, respite and short breaks, carers' health and training for carers.

A working group has been established to provide advice and information when guidance affecting young carers is being updated, or new information is being produced, to help ensure consistency of messages, reflection of young carers’ needs and concerns, and a systematic approach to local young carer support.

In addition, the Group will assist the Executive’s preparation for the spending review by:  assessing existing capacity of local young carer support and making recommendations on minimum requirements for sustainable local services; and assessing the role, remit and costs of a national young carer forum to facilitate young carer participation and liaise with local projects.

This section contains further information on the ongoing work of this group.
