Communities in Control: new White Paper

15 July 2008

The Government has just published a new White Paper -'Communities in Control' - this could mean that carers are supported to have a more influential voice in local services.

The Government's White Paper: Communities in control: real people, real power aims to pass power into the hands of local communities. It aims to generate vibrant local democracy in every part of the country, and to give real control over local decisions and services to a wider pool of active citizens.

On the agenda are proposals such as:

  • community kitties to give local people more control over which local projects should be funded
  • citizens' juries and forums so that local people can have more of a say on local services
  • democratic surveys and tools such as petitions to carry more weight and influence council decision-making

You can read more on the White Paper here

You can submit your comments on the proposals: communityempowerment@communities.gsi.gov.uk - remember to share them with Equal Partners: equalpartners@carersuk.org
