IMPACT Programme: Call to Carers

Having a mental health problem has a very negative impact on a person's physical health. IMPACT is a programme provisionally adopted by the UK Mental Health Research Network. It is running a 5-year programme of research, looking at physical health and substance use in people with psychosis. It plans to follow people up for a year after their first presentation with psychosis and observe their physical health, mental health and substance use. It is also developing a Heath Promotion Intervention addressing physical health and substance use, and will conduct a trial to see if the intervention improves people’s quality of life and is cost-effective.

IMPACT is looking for Carers of people with the above conditions to help them plan and run the research in an informed way. They believe that such input will add to the relevance of the knowledge that they derive from the work. The commitment would entail attending monthly planning meetings and occasional working groups with members of the study team. There would also be documents that they would appreciate your views on.
