Make a difference to national cancer care

18 January 2008

The National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) is looking for carers to join a programme looking at the causes treatment and cure of cancer. Could you give your expertise and help improve cancer services for patientsand their carers?

What is the National Cancer Research Initiative?

The National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) is a partnership between government, charity and industry which exists to promote co-operation and to maximise the benefit to patients and public from cancer research.

The NCRI has set up the Informatics Initiative to try and make as big an impact as possible on the causes, prevention and treatment of cancer by making the most of what we already “know”.

Am I eligible to join the Board?

The programme is looking for carer members to join the board:

  • Are you interested in cancer research?
  • Do you have an appreciation of the role of information technology in improving the accessibility and use of data (in any field)?
  • Are you IT literate e.g. able to use internet search engines?
  • Do you have recent experience of cancer services?
  • Do you have excellent communication skills?
  • Do you have experience of working in groups/committees?

If this sounds like you, why not join the Board? It reviews progress against objectives and considers the financial

position of the Initiative.  its membership includes organisations involved in cancer research and informatics.

What does the role involve?

It is not time consuming; the Board meets up to three times per year in London.  It offers an attendance fee

for meetings, expenses, as well as training and support to get you up to speed with the issues being discussed.

How do I apply?

You can download the Role Profile and Application Form from the website at www.ncri.org.uk. Alternatively, please contact Dr Abigail Evans on 020 7438 5418 or by email at abigail.evan(at)cancer.org.uk.

Deadline for return of applications is: Sunday 17 February 2008.  Interviews will be held in London on Tuesday 4 March 2008.
